SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail safety system, which is is intended to validate whether an email message was sent by an authorized server. Using SPF protection for a given domain will stop the faking of email addresses generated with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this function for a domain name makes a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that contains the IP addresses of the servers which are allowed to send e-mail messages from mailboxes under the domain. The moment this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. When an e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through checks if it originates from an approved server. If it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, however when it doesn't come from a server part of the SPF record for the particular domain, it is rejected. Thus nobody can mask an email address then make it appear as if you are distributing spam messages. This method is also referred to as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Cloud Web Hosting

If you host your domain names in a cloud web hosting account on our end and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you'll be able to enable SPF protection for all of them with a few clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in a separate section where you'll be able to view which domain names are currently secured. For those which aren't, you will be able to activate the SPF protection solution and manage a variety of things during the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your mailboxes, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, as well as to set a rule that messages can be sent only if your domain names include our MX records. The last choice is the most secure one, but you can use it when we handle the email addresses for your domain names and do not use a different e-mail supplier. The new records will be activated within 24 hours and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an email by using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you can secure your emails by enabling the SPF protection service for any domain name in the account with only a couple of clicks. This can be done from the Emails section of our Hepsia Control Panel which is provided with the semi-dedicated accounts and even if you lack previous practical experience with such issues, you won't have any troubles to enable the security. The only things that you'll need to do will be to pick a domain from a drop-down list and then type in the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. As soon as the updated record propagates, messages from your e-mail addresses will be sent around the world only if they're sent from that particular server. When your e-mail addresses are handled by us and not by a third-party supplier, you can also activate an option for emails to be mailed only if the domain name contains our MX records and the latter would be the most secure option. If you have any kind of questions about thisfeature, you'll be able to contact our tech support crew 24/7.
